CAN PEST CONTROL GET RID OF SCORPIONS?
For many of us who live in Arizona, Southern Nevada, and many other areas, we are very familiar with scorpions, particularly the Bark Scorpion. But can pest control get rid of scorpions effectively?
In the valley of the sun, Phoenix Arizona, Bark Scorpions are plentiful and are commonly found on and in home properties. This little guy has the ability to sting its victims in cases of it’s own protection or hunting for food. With this sting the scorpion releases a venom into its victim that can cause pain and or death.
Needless to say homeowners often are not comfortable with these scorpions around or entering their homes and threatening the well being of family members. So, can pest control get rid of scorpions in a way that reassures homeowners?
For decades to try and prevent these scorpions presence there are a variety of pesticides available either retail or through the service of pest control companies. Unfortunately due to the anatomical make up and behavioral traits of the Bark Scorpion, short term and long term protection by attempting to kill them with pesticides has been highly ineffective.
Let’s look at why.
The scorpion is part of the spider family (arachnid). It walks with it’s body elevated from the ground (stilting). So it does not drag its abdomen on the ground avoiding contact with pesticide. In addition they are covered with a thick protective exoskeleton adding to its resistance to pesticides. The scorpion does not groom itself like cockroaches and ants which spread the poison on their bodies and possible ingest it as well. Actually, many people wonder: can pest control get rid of scorpions despite these adaptations?
Factually therefore scorpion elimination with the use of pesticide application is not an effective way to eliminate scorpions. Ultimately, when considering pest control, get rid of scorpions completely is not always possible.
